About Us

We are a friendly, family run business based in the wonderful Carmarthenshire countryside. We may be small, but we have so much to offer all our visitors. The beautiful Brechfa forest area is ideal country to be explored on horseback.

It consists of large areas of open mountain, planted forestry and beautiful valleys, as well as farm land complete with tempting tracks and bridleways. Llanllwni Mountain is on the edge of the Cambrian Mountain range. It is owned by the Crown Estates and managed by graziers. It is a large area of common land with open access making perfect riding country.

Our Location

He views from the mountain are fabulous. The Brecon Beacons are easily seen and on a clear day you can see the preseli mountains to the west and even the Snowdonia mountains to the north.

The Countryside

Riding out on the mountain gives ample opportunities to see many of the different species of wildlife which live here. You will almost be certain to catch sight of the Red Kites, buzzards and larks and maybe lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a hen harrier, peregrine or a beautiful flock of golden plovers. For those people interested in history, there are several sites of bronze age burial sites clearly seen on the mountain, and for everybody in the late summer, there is the unforgettable sight of the mountain covered in purple heather.

Our Family History

Dillwyn has lived and farmed on the mountain all his life, and therefore there is no-one better able to guide you around the area. He is a natural horseman who was riding almost before he was walking! Horses have always been an important feature of the farm, used for shepherding the sheep as well as for pleasure. Dillwyn has also used heavy horses for working in the forestry. His two daughters, Lyndsy and Maria grew up with horses and have inherited his love for them. They help Dillwyn with the horses and with him, will be your guides on the rides, together with Natalie, a close family friend. Other helpers include Lisa, (sister in law) and Ruth, (Dillwyns wife).

— “Had a fantastic time with the Blanca Trekking team. Very helpful and friendly, with brilliant horses in a beautiful location. We had two rides over the mountains taking in amazing views and some local sites. Definitely coming back for more and would very much recommend a ride or two with them!” —

Susan Chandler – Brighton

Our Team

Who We Are

Our success depends on the strength of our team. We take pride in welcoming all our visitors at Blanca Trekking, so here is a little introduction to the team before we meet you in person at the farm.

Ruth’s interest in horses began in the 70’s when she moved to Wales as a teenager and learnt to ride. She currently works as a nurse in the local hospital. She continues to ride but more recently her interests have turned to driving horses. Ruth is also a qualified hypnotherapist and can offer relaxation sessions for nervous riders needing a little reassurance.

Maria grew up with horses, learning to ride at a young age. Maria has spent the past year, together with Dillwyn and Lisa, working with the horses, bringing them on, up to a suitable trekking standard. Maria has recently developed an interest in equine therapy and hopes to pursue this interest in more depth in the future.

Lyndsy was lucky enough to have Llanllwni Mountain as her playground when she was growing up, with horses to ride everyday, Lyndsy knows how wonderful it can be. Lyndsy lives nearby to ‘Blanca’ with her husband, where she is a full time mother to their young daughter Shanti.

Lisa is 19 years old and is currently studying towards her level 3 extended diploma qualification in animal management. She has regularly attended ‘ Blanca ‘ for the past year, getting to know the horses and learning the trekking routes. As well as a love for all things equine, Lisa has a passion for birds, having grown up with many different species.

Sinead loves all animals, but horses are her favourite. She enjoys her every spare moment of her time over school holidays up at Blanca Trekking, helping with the horses, going out on treks, riding out over the open countryside.

Kacey is our odd job and handyman here at Blanca. Kacey is currently studying towards his engineering qualification and is also very passionate about archery.

— “I can’t recommend these highly enough….and you all know how fussy I am about how horses are kept. This is not a ‘posh’ trekking centre It is a beautiful haven in a mad world where the mental (and physical) health of the horses is put before image and profit. The mountains are stunning, the happy horses are willing and safe and the people are the among the nicest I have ever met.” —

Tracey Gower – Sussex

These are just some answers to any questions you may have.
If anything is not answered please feel free to message or phone us!

Yes, to avoid disappointment it’s essential to phone one of the numbers provided and book your trek. It means we can give you a price and have the time to ensure we get the right horses ready and plan the right route to suit you!
Prices depend on the length of ride you want! Here are the prices(per person), if there are any further questions feel free to phone us. (Discounts may be available for more than one rider and/or longer rides)

**Please be aware that prices may vary slightly depending on the type of ride**

£20 per hour.

CART RIDES from; £50 per hour.

Treks can be any length of time you wish, full day, half day, with pub lunch at extra cost to you.
You can pay for your trek when you arrive at the farm. Unfortunately we aren’t currently able to accept card payments.
This is preferable as we are not a riding school and do not provide lessons. However, we do have a range of horses and routes to suit novices and more advanced riders alike. If you have very little/no experience we do offer shorter lead rein rides on very safe horses, so experience is not essential at all!
We are now able to offer treks to children under 12, but anyone under this age must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The rides will take place over the mountain and through the local villages. We have several different routes of varying lengths that cater to different abilities. It is always recommended to specify the type of ride you’d like when you book.
We ride in almost all weather! We will only cancel if frost or severe snow occur. If it is particularly windy we may take you on a more sheltered route.
A riding hat is essential. If you have your own then feel free to bring it. If not, don’t worry, we have a wide range of different size hats that can be borrowed! It’s advised to wear long trousers and sensible shoes (riding boots if you have them! Or walking boots, wellies etc.) and suitable clothing depending on weather; warm clothing for cold days, waterproofs etc.

Even on a sunny day you may be surprised at how chilly it can get on the mountain. On cart rides particularly, it is always best to wear lots of layers!
As we are located in such a remote area, sometimes a SatNav will send visitors up the wrong track! Once you have found Llanllwni, look at the map added to this note to help you find your way. If you’re still stuck or can’t find Llanllwni, you can phone the numbers provided in the ‘Contact Us’ section and someone will help you.

Once you are on the ‘mountain road’, you will cross a cattle grid, the track to Blanca Trekking is on the left straight after it.

We hope we have answered your questions, but if not feel free to contact us no matter how bizzare the query! We are always looking to improve our service to you, so your questions help us to help you.

— “Amazing experience with a very welcoming and professional staff. I had the delightful pleasure of taking Daisy for a trek around the breathtaking and scenic mountains and farm land. Will be booking myself in going back very soon. :D” —
